Confindustria welcomes the Senate’s approval of the The ‘Piano Casa’ Decree-Law. The President Emanuele Orsini He reiterated the Confindustria network’s willingness to contribute to the implementation of the measure, identifying the areas where the housing shortage is holding back business growth, employment and the attractiveness of the labour market.
«I am pleased that the Senate has approved the »Piano Casa’ decree. We want to play our part in identifying the areas where housing is needed, because it is clear that there is a shortage precisely where there is a concentration of active industrial businesses,” said Orsini.
The Housing Plan as a driver of welfare and competitiveness
According to the president of Confindustria, The issue of housing is now an integral part of the country’s competitiveness policies. «I believe the Housing Plan is a key part of the welfare system,» he said, emphasising that the availability of affordable housing is a vital tool for supporting employment, encouraging women’s participation in the workforce and meeting the needs of businesses.
Orsini pointed out that Confindustria had made housing one of its priorities right at the start of its term of office, in 2024. «We began by discussing housing, not only for the most vulnerable groups, but also for the middle-income groups who are currently struggling to find affordable flats,» he explained.
Affordable housing to support employment and regional growth
The president of Confindustria then emphasised the need to take action in areas where demand for housing is driven by economic growth and rising employment. In some areas, he noted, the cost of rent is now so high that it has a significant impact on workers’ purchasing power.
«We can always do more and we must do better when it comes to wages, but if the gap with the cost of rent remains so wide, it becomes difficult to attract and retain workers in areas with a strong industrial base. Making affordable housing available – housing that does not account for more than 25–30% of net wages – is a priority for the country,» concluded Orsini.
