Born in 1960, married and father of three children.

Patrick Martin grew up in Bourg-en-Bresse, near Lyon. Graduated with a law degree from Panthéon-Assas University, Sciences-Po Paris and Master at ESSEC, he carried out his national service in the helicopter-borne infantry.

He worked for Crédit national (now Natixis) before joining in 1987 the family mid-sized company - Martin Belaysoud Expansion (founded in 1829) - specialized in industrial supply and construction. With 3000 employees and a 1,2 Billion euros turn-over in 2023, Martin Belaysoud Expansion is one of the leaders in its sector in France.

Convinced of the beneficial role of business in French territories and for the country, Patrick Martin has been an employer activist for two decades: president of Medef de l'Ain (2003-2007), president of Medef Rhône-Alpes (2006-2011), president of Medef Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (2016-2018) and MEDEF’s vice-president (2018-2023) before becoming MEDEF’s president in July 2023.

Patrick Martin is a Knight of the French Legion of Honour.
