About G7

The Group of Seven - G7 is an intergovernmental political forum attended by the leaders of the world’s 7 most industrially advanced democracies. The group consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The European Union is involved in the G7 as a non-enumerated member.

Born as a meeting of finance ministers in 1973, its first goal was primarily to facilitate shared macroeconomic initiatives to face contemporary economic challenges. Since 1975, the G7 has become a formal and high-profile venue to discuss and coordinate solutions to major global economic and social issues.

The Head of government of the G7 countries, along with the EU's Commission and Council Presidents meet annually at the G7 Summit while Ministers of the G7 countries and the EU representative meet throughout the year to discuss specific policy topics. Representatives of other states and international organizations are often invited as guests from the rotating Presidency.
