European Affairs

The department serves as a point of reference for Associations and companies within the Confindustria System concerning European matters.

Since 1958, the year the first Delegation to the EU was established, it has been engaged in lobbying and representing the interests of the Italian industrial system before the Institutions of the European Union and within BusinessEurope, the federation of European employers' association.

The department also provides support to the System’s Associations on accessing direct EU funding, organizes seminars on EU topics, and arranges visits to Brussels for territorial and sectoral associations within the Confindustria System.

Matteo Carlo Borsani

After studying Political Science in Pavia and obtaining a Master's degree in European Policies in Strasbourg, Matteo Carlo Borsani moved to Brussels, where he joined the Confindustria Delegation to the European Union (EU) in 2004. In the following years, he was responsible for relations with the European Parliament and policies related to the internal market, with a particular focus on the free movement of goods and services, intellectual property, public procurement, and standardization. Additionally, he organized seminars on European affairs and coordinated visits of the Confindustria System to Brussels. In 2018, he took on the role of Head of the Delegation to the EU. He is a member of the European Economic and Social Committee and a contract professor at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan.
He has been at the helm of the European Affairs Area since 2019.
