Centro Studi (Research Department)

The Confindustria Research Department analyzes economic and business trends in order to forecast future dynamics and identify appropriate national and European macroeconomic policies to ensure sustainable growth for the country and its productive system.

The Research Department is organized in four areas: national and international macroeconomic analysis and forecast; the analysis of trends in industrial systems; geoeconomic scenarios; evaluation of public policies.

The Department works in collaboration with major national and international economic institutions and research centers. The Department publishes economic outlook reports, policy and discussion notes, articles, research and position papers, and infographics. It also carries out dissemination activities within the associations of Confindustria and externally through webinars, conferences, and seminars.

Alessandro Fontana

Alessandro Fontana has been the Director of the Confindustria Research Department since June 2021. He joined Confindustria in 2008 as a senior economist responsible for public finance and served as the coordinator for operational activities at the Research Department from 2018 to 2021. Before joining Confindustria, he was adjunct professor of Public Economics at the Università dell'Aquila and at the Università Cattolica of Milan for several years. He worked in the Technical Committee for Public Expenditure, the Committee on the Implementation of Fiscal Federalism, the Technical Committee for Public Finance at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Institute of Economic Studies and Analysis. He also provided consulting services to national and international public entities. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Development Policies and Evaluation of Public Investments from Università La Sapienza in Rome. He also received a Master’s degree in Economics from Birkbeck College, University of London.

He is the Director of the Confindustria Research Department since June 2021.
