Public Consultation on the Simplification of Administrative Burdens in EU Environmental Legislation - Confindustria Response

On 22 July 2025, the European Commission launched a Call for Evidence as part of the legislative package Omnibuswith the aim of simplifying EU environmental legislation and reducing administrative burdens, paying particular attention to the needs of business.
The initiative is part of the Competitiveness CompassThe Commission's work programme for 2025 envisages a reduction in the administrative burden of 25% for all companies and 35% for SMEs.

Confindustria participated in the consultation by submitting their comments and operational proposals to the European Commission. In particular, the contributions covered key topics such as the circular economy, environmental permitting and authorisations, industrial emissions, simplification of reporting requirements and digitisation. Further comments covered sustainable water management, land use and regeneration of brownfield sites, the DNSH principle, deforestation and chemicals legislation, as well as sector-specific issues.
