SNAM LAUNCHES TOGETHER WITH CONFINDUSTRIA A MARKET TEST DEDICATED TO THE DEMAND FOR HYDROGEN AND A COLLECTION OF EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR THE TRANSPORT AND STORAGE OF CO2

Rome, 5 February 2024 - Snam, with the support of Confindustria, will officially launch from 7 February a market test on the demand for hydrogen in Italy and, in cooperation with Eni, a non-binding collection of expressions of interest for the transport and storage of CO2 at the Ravenna site, as part of the carbon capture and storage (CCS) launched in recent months.

The initiatives are part of Snam's broader framework of activities aimed at supporting the country's energy transition. The synergy with Confindustria will make it possible to identify and investigate with the various manufacturing and energy-intensive member companies two strategic markets for the pursuit of Italian and European decarbonisation objectives. The information gathered will therefore be made available to the institutions involved in the definition of the regulatory and normative framework of reference, and will constitute an important reference for planning the development of the hydrogen and CCS supply chains in Italy.

" In today's energy scenario, security and energy transition are two sides of the same coin. Snam, in addition to guaranteeing continuous energy supplies, is committed on a daily basis to the development of an Italian and European system that aims to transport decarbonised molecules', commented Piero Ercoli, Executive Director Decarbonisation at Snam. "With the launch of the market test dedicated to hydrogen and the collection of expressions of interest for the Ravenna CCS project, we want to confirm Snam's central role in facilitating the achievement of the country's decarbonisation goals, taking into account the characteristics of our industrial fabric'.

"The extraordinary events that have taken place in recent years have brought the issues of strategic independence and national and European energy security into sharp focus, making it essential to adopt new solutions capable of reconciling the objectives of environmental sustainability with those of industrial policy and socio-economic stability, he added Raffaele Langella, General Manager Confindustria. "The answer to these needs for our country also lies in building an energy mix based on the complementarity of different technological solutions, including renewable hydrogen and CCS. We hope that this initiative will facilitate the energy transition path by leveraging investments in research, in order to simultaneously achieve three different objectives: decarbonisation, competitiveness and security of supply.

In order to reach European targets, the implementation of decarbonisation projects requires pragmatism and synergies between energy operators, which are essential to intercept the real needs of the industrial, transport and civil fabric of the territory.

Both initiatives will be presented through a webinar dedicated, which will take place at 11 a.m. on 7 February and can be followed at https://snam-2024.ambientivirtuali.it/register.php.

The activities will end on 5 April and the results will be shared in aggregate form by the third quarter of 2024.

In particular, the market test dedicated to hydrogen aims to gather data and technical and economic information to investigate the current and prospective state of consumption and production, both as an energy vector and as a raw material. This information will also be used to assess the degree to which the market is aligned with national and European targets.

The collection of expressions of interest for the transport and storage of CO2 at the Ravenna site is designed with the aim of informing stakeholders about the Ravenna CCS project developed in a 50:50 joint venture by Eni, the operator, and Snam, collecting some basic data on the emitters involved and, in a non-binding manner, their interest in this decarbonisation solution. On the basis of the data collected, which will be added to what is already available, Eni and Snam will be able to optimise the development of the project, with particular focus on CO2.

All information on the initiative is available on the dedicated page of the Snam website https://www.snam.it/it/i-nostri-business/idrogeno/market-test-idrogeno-e-CCS.htmlfrom which links to the individual questionnaires can be accessed.
