Rome, 18 February 2026 - “We welcome the bill decree launched by the government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. It is good that concrete measures are being taken to support families and businesses, but above all that a broader and more structural vision of industrial policy for our country is beginning to be outlined.
The cost of energy has long been one of the main critical factors for the Italian production system. We have pointed this out on several occasions: energy has a decisive impact on the competitiveness of our companies, particularly in the energy-hungry and manufacturing sectors.
At the same time, we must monitor that these measures do not affect the development of the Italian energy sector.
We believe it is essential to continue working together with the government, including at the European level, so that the issue of ETS costs, which have a significant impact on the final price of energy, is tackled with determination. It is necessary to open a constructive debate with the European Union to ensure rules that accompany the transition without penalising the competitiveness of our industrial fabric.
The decree goes in the direction of supporting businesses and represents an important step. As Confindustria, we confirm our full willingness to work together to build a solid, sustainable energy strategy capable of strengthening Italy's growth and competitiveness”.
