ENERGY: CONFINDUSTRIA, GOVERNMENT INTERVENES ON REFERENCE PRICES IN 'ELECTICITY RELEASE
The scenario has changed, market prices have fallen
Rome, 8 February 2023 - In just three days' time, the deadline for Italian companies to sign the release contract will expire, a measure aimed at reducing the cost of energy, provided for in the 'Electricity Release' introduced by the Draghi government and published last October.
The measure on renewable energy allocations at capped prices is an important instrument for the industry for the year 2022 and provides for a transfer cost of €210 Mwh, which was set, however, at a time when the market price was fluctuating between €350 and €400. Today, the scenario has profoundly changed and the market has already fallen sharply. The measure also provides for the possibility of reducing the transfer price to €180 per Mwh, as soon as the price cap mechanism for renewables under European Regulation No. 1854 of 2022 comes into force.
Confindustria therefore hopes that the government will intervene urgently to change the reference price, making the measure consistent with the commitments set out in the measure and in line with the prices set by European regulations.
