"The measures on high energy prices, particularly those of a more structural nature relating to gas, go in the right direction. We now hope that in the electricity sector, too, we will move towards a longer time horizon because, at least from a first reading of the text, the measures are still temporary in nature'. How much to the automotive sector, 'the intervention is positive because it lays the foundations for the launch of an organic plan dedicated to the sector, which will run over a long period of time and provide adequate resources'. Thus Maurizio Marchesini, Confindustria Vice President for Supply Chains and Medium-sized Enterprises, commented on the bill decree in an interview with Corriere della Sera.

"Confindustria, together with the sector associations, presented Minister Giorgetti with an organic plan with a dedicated package of measures with a multi-year horizon, divided into three main chapters: research and innovation; investment; and training"., said Marchesini.

Getting to the heart of the matter, the Vice President addressed the issue of the phase out of the endothermic engine, explaining that 'the guillotine' is the wrong approach. "On this I would like to make it clear: if you reject the endothermic engine then you eliminate the possibility, for example, of powering cars with biofuels. Not to mention that there are conventional engines with very low emissions. I think that focusing only on the phase-out date is reductive, as well as wrongly considering the electric car as the only solution to reduce emissions,' he stressed.

Marchesini has proposed therefore a "45% emission reductions to 2030 and the setting of 2035 and 2040 targets in 2028, so that their feasibility can be assessed on the basis of infrastructure progress, market response and the evolution of the European energy mix". In addition, the owner of Supply Chains and Medium Enterprises pointed out that "active policies and training are crucial, both for young people by strengthening ITS, for example, and for those who are already employed'.

To support automotive companies "development contracts are a useful tool - said the Vice President - but it must be extended the possibility of use also by larger companies, being easy and quick to use and without territorial limits. But what is 4.0 investment incentives are keyclosely related to the automotive sector, which, however, the last Budget Law deprioritised. Now Mise has asked for it to be monitored, which we hope will be a good sign'.

Finally, on the importance of Stellantis maintaining its production capacity in Italy Marchesini said that 'it is one of the conditions to revitalise the supply chain. We need to double vehicle production from 100,000 today for each of the four plants to 200,000".
