The European Commission has published the new calls of the LIFE Programme, the only one specifically dedicated to the environment and climate action.
The financial envelope of LIFE for the period 2021 - 2027 is set at EUR 5.4 billion in current prices. The Programme plays a key role in supporting the implementation of EU legislation and policies in the fields of environment and climate action.
The LIFE programme is divided into two strands, each of which is in turn divided into two sub-programmes. More precisely, the programme is structured as follows:
the 'Environment' sector, which includes:
- the 'Nature and Biodiversity' sub-programme;
- the 'Circular Economy and Quality of Life' sub-programme;
the 'Climate Action' sector, which includes:
- the 'Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation' sub-programme;
- the 'Transition to Clean Energy' sub-programme.
The sub-programme 'Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation' aims to achieve the following objectives:
- develop, demonstrate and promote innovative techniques, methods and approaches to achieve the objectives of the Union's climate action legislation and policies;
- Support the development, implementation, monitoring and enforcement of relevant Union legislation and policies on climate action by improving governance at all levels, in particular through capacity building of public and private actors and the involvement of civil society;
- Catalyse the large-scale deployment of effective technical and policy solutions for the implementation of EU climate action legislation and policies, replicating results, integrating related objectives into other policies and public and private sector practices, mobilising investment and improving access to finance.
The sub-programme includes the following calls:
- Climate Change Mitigation: finances projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote low-carbon solutions in key sectors.
- Climate Change AdaptationIt supports interventions that increase resilience to climate change and reduce the risks associated with extreme events or long-term impacts.
- Climate Change Governance and InformationIt promotes initiatives that strengthen climate governance, public participation and the dissemination of knowledge and good practices.
The total budget for the three topics is 61,500,000.
The deadline for submitting proposals is 23 September 2025, 17:00 (Brussels).
