The European Commission has published the new calls of the LIFE Programme, the only one specifically dedicated to the environment and climate action.

The financial envelope of LIFE for the period 2021 - 2027 is set at EUR 5.4 billion in current prices. The Programme plays a key role in supporting the implementation of EU legislation and policies in the fields of environment and climate action.

The LIFE programme is divided into two strands, each of which is in turn divided into two sub-programmes. More precisely, the programme is structured as follows:

the 'Environment' sector, which includes:

• the 'Nature and Biodiversity' sub-programme;
• the 'Circular Economy and Quality of Life' sub-programme;

the 'Climate Action' sector, which includes:

• the 'Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation' sub-programme;
• the sub-programme 'Transition to clean energy'.

The sub-programme 'Circular Economy and Quality of Life' aim to achieve the following objectives:

• Develop, demonstrate and promote innovative techniques, methods and approaches to achieve the objectives of EU environmental legislation and policy and contribute to the implementation of best practice;
• Support the development, implementation, monitoring and enforcement of EU environmental legislation and policy by improving governance at all levels, in particular by strengthening the capacities of public and private actors and the involvement of civil society;
• Catalyse the large-scale dissemination of successful technical and policy solutions for implementing EU environmental legislation and policy, replicating results, integrating related objectives into other policies and public and private sector practices, mobilising investment and improving access to finance.

The sub-programme 'Circular Economy and Quality of Life' includes two calls (called topics):

• LIFE-2025-SAP-ENV-ENVIRONMENT - Circular Economy and Zero PollutionIt funds innovative projects that promote the transition to a circular economy and the reduction of pollution in all its aspects (waste management, air, water, soil, etc.).
• LIFE-2025-SAP-ENV-GOV - Environmental Governance: supports initiatives that improve environmental governance by strengthening the implementation of EU legislation and promoting the involvement of citizens and stakeholders (e.g. on issues such as water management and air quality).

The total budget for the two topics is EUR 81,000,000.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 23 September 2025, 17:00 (Brussels).
