On 26 October 2022, the European Commission presented a proposed revision of the Air Quality Directive, which envisages a strengthening of the provisions on air quality monitoring, definition and planning, presents a number of important critical issues for industry, especially for the timeframe in which the standards must be met. The risk is that for industrial sectors, the new requirements, which are not proportionate to feasibility within the planned timeframe, will lead to relocation effects. Confindustria, therefore, has drawn up a Position Paper, which has been forwarded to the MASE and the EU institutions, detailing the critical issues and related methodological proposals for possible solutions.
