Maritime Economy: Strategic Actions for the Country's Competitiveness

The Economy of the Sea is a Strategic Asset for Italywith over EUR 216 billion contribution to GDP and one million employees. To meet the challenges of the ecological and digital transition, Confindustria has drawn up an action plan based on three drivers: Infrastructure and Portuality, Carriers and Fleets, People and Skills.

Need investments in portsdigitisation of processes and development of alternative fuels (LNG, hydrogen, biofuels), making the most of PNRR funds, ETS and tax credits. Maritime transport needs regulatory reformsbalance between sustainability and competitiveness and support for shipbuilding, fishing and boating.

The real crux remains the skills shortageTechnical training must be strengthened, ITS and universities must be enhanced, the recruitment of qualified young people must be stimulated, and digital, language and logistical skills must be enhanced.

Confindustria is ready to lead the relaunch of the Sea Economypromoting targeted industrial policies and a constructive dialogue with institutions.
