the “New talent for Bergamo” was set up to respond to three main critical issues: demographic decline; low unemployment rates; lack of specialised technical profiles. For this reason, Confindustria Bergamo, in cooperation with ITS Nuove Tecnologie della Vita (ITS Academy Giulio Natta), is activating strategic connections with growing countries where Bergamo companies operate, with a particular focus on North Africa in compliance with the Mattei Plan for Africa. The initiative is being developed on two fronts: the first concerns the training in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, of 20 students through the activation of a course on civil and industrial plant engineering; the second, envisages the creation of four ITS Academy courses in Italy, entirely or partially aimed at students from Ethiopia and Egypt. For this second front, 70 students will be trained on the basis of technical profiles required by the chemical-rubber-plastics sector. Furthermore, from January 2026 to June 2026 they will carry out internship hours in member companies that have supported the project. The broader objective of the initiative is to create an ecosystem capable of fostering the reception, inclusion and retention of these young people so that they feel like citizens and choose Bergamo to work and live in. To this end, Confindustria Bergamo is actively collaborating with local institutions to define a sustainable housing model, which guarantees hospitality and encourages students to stay even after the training period, and a territorial system of reception and integration to enable the creation of ties with the community.
