Chairman Emanuele Orsini points out the urgency of intervening on energy costs and the ETS to protect the competitiveness of companies

Confindustria welcomes the bill decree approved by the government, considering it a first step in the direction of a broader energy strategy consistent with the needs of the production system.

“We welcome the bill decree launched by the government led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. It is good that we are intervening with concrete measures to support families and businesses, but above all that we are beginning to outline a broader and more structural vision of industrial policy for our country,” he said. declared the president Emanuele Orsini.

The theme of the cost of energy remains central to the competitiveness of Italian industry, particularly for the manufacturing and energy-intensive sectors, which have long been exposed to a price differential with their main European partners.

“The cost of energy has long been one of the main critical factors for the Italian production system,” explains Orsini, who then adds: “We have pointed this out on several occasions, energy has a decisive impact on the competitiveness of our companies, particularly in the energy-hungry and manufacturing sectors.

At the same time, Confindustria emphasises the need to accompany the measures with careful monitoring of the effects on the development of the national energy sector.

Within the European framework, the focus is also on the functioning of the ETS and its impact on final energy prices, an issue on which the Association again reiterates the need for a confrontation with the EU institutions.

“We believe it is essential to continue working together with the government, including at the European level, to address with determination the issue of ETS-related costs, which have a significant impact on the final price of energy. It is necessary to open a constructive debate with the European Union to ensure rules that accompany the transition without penalising the competitiveness of our industrial fabric,” Orsini explained.

For Confindustria, the measure is therefore an important signal, to be included in a medium- to long-term energy strategy capable of combining sustainability, security of supply and industrial growth.

“The decree goes in the direction of supporting businesses and represents an important step. As Confindustria, we confirm our full willingness to work together to build a solid, sustainable energy strategy capable of strengthening Italy's growth and competitiveness,” Orsini concludes.
