THE INTERREG PROGRAMMES<\/p>\n
Interreg is one of the key instruments of the European Union and supports cross-border cooperation through project funding.<\/p>\n
Its aim is to tackle common challenges and find shared solutions in areas such as health, the environment, research, education, transport, sustainable energy and more.<\/p>\n
Interreg VI is the programme for the 2021\u20132027 programming period and consists of a total of 97 programmes.<\/p>\n
There are four types of Interreg programmes:<\/p>\n
Cross-border (Interreg A);<\/p>\n
Transnational (Interreg B);<\/p>\n
Interregional (Interreg C);<\/p>\n
Cooperation of the Outermost Regions (Interreg D).<\/p>\n
Cross-Border programmes (Interreg A) aim to address the challenges faced by citizens and businesses who have to cross national borders on a daily basis. Cross-border cooperation can be established between neighbouring border regions of two or more Member States or at least one Member State and one or more eligible third countries. The Interreg A category also includes cooperation programmes at the EU's external borders supported by the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) and the European Neighbourhood Instrument.<\/p>\n

Transnational cooperation programmes (Interreg B) involve partners from Member States, third countries, partner countries and overseas countries and territories, with the aim of achieving a higher degree of territorial integration. Interreg B programmes therefore cover larger geographical areas and are managed by a managing authority located in one of the countries involved. The objective is to promote better cooperation and regional development within the Union through a joint approach to addressing common issues. <\/p>\n

Interregional cooperation programmes (Interreg C) operate on a pan-European level, covering all EU Member States and beyond. Interreg C is open to both Member States and IPA countries. Interregional cooperation promotes the creation of partnerships, the exchange of experiences, innovative approaches and capacity building, with a particular focus on investments in employment and growth, integrated and sustainable development, and the harmonisation of Interreg programmes. The aim is to develop good practices and facilitate the exchange and transfer of experiences from successful regions.<\/p>\n

The total budget is \u20ac9.9 billion, broken down as follows:<\/p>\n
EUR 6.7 billion for Interreg A;<\/p>\n
2.3 billion for Interreg B;<\/p>\n
