Competitiveness and growth (Italy's delays in fulfilling the Lisbon Targets)

17 May 2005
European policy

In March 2000 in Lisbon, the European Heads of State and Government agreed to take up the challenge of decisive strategic economic reform with the aim of radically change the labour, products and capital markets and making Europe a more dynamic and competitive area. Italy is a country with a boundless entrepreneurial vocation (the number of new enterprises is higher than in any other part of the world) that nevertheless suffers from a severe lack of competitiveness. We therefore need to come up with a new plan for our country that will release it from its rigidities and create conditions that will allow enterprises to grow and Italy to be more competitive. In this context CONFINDUSTRIA presents its proposals.
