Industrial relations, safety and social affairs

The Division focuses on issues related to industrial and trade union relations, workplace health and safety, and welfare policies.

The Division’s task is to interpret and represent the needs and proposals of member companies in their relations with the main political and administrative institutions and with trade union organisations, at both the national and international levels.

The Division also provides information, technical assistance and consultancy services to its members on work-related matters through analysis and study of trade union and labour law problems.

At the national level, the Division monitors ongoing legislative initiatives and performs specific lobbying actions with the government and parliament. The Division seeks hearings before parliamentary committees and proposes amendments to draft bills.

The Division also takes part in employment policy forums organised by the Ministries of Employment, Health and Social Affairs and Economic Development, and in meetings of the CNEL (national council for the economy and employment), a constitutional body advising parliament and the government, in which all industry sectors and trade union organisations are represented. The Division is a full member of the Steering and Supervisory Councils of INPS (Italian social security authority) and INAIL (Italian workplace accident insurance authority).

In the international arena, the Division undertakes representation and cooperation activities within a number of Businesseurope working groups (European Social Dialogue; employment work group; immigration work group), the European Commission, the Dublin Foundation (governing board), and the Bilbao European Agency.

The aim of this activity is not only to have a say in the European debate on work-related issues, representing the experience of Italian companies, but also to foster the sharing of best practices developed on social policy issues in the European Union.

The Division has a similar commitment when it participates in the OECD’s BIAC (Business and Industry Advisory Committee) Employment, Labour and Social Affairs Committee.

The Division also monitors the activities of the International Labour Organisation.

To perform its tasks in industrial relations, workplace safety and social policies, the Division promotes the Association’s full involvement in drawing up business guidelines in close coordination with Confindustria’s Industrial Relations, Welfare and Social Affairs Technical Committee.
